| | Spend a day drifting the magical Middle Fork of the Flathead River. These float trips are full of solitude, relaxation and pristine fly fishing. The Middle Fork of the Flathead River punches its way through the mountains of northwest Montana. From its beginnings in the Great Bear Wilderness area, the Middle Fork offers a unique blend of scenery, wildlife and fishing in un-crowded and pristine surroundings. From Bear Creek, where the river leaves the Great Bear 45 miles downstream, to Blankenship Bridge, the river separates Glacier National Park and the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex Cutthroat, Rainbows, and Bull trout are common to catch in these rivers.
The floats will take you on a number of different sections of the river in McKenzie style drift boats or float boats. This style of fishing will allow you to cast over water which is not accessible through wade-in fishing. Your trip will also include a streamside lunch. We can also arrange for trips to the other major rivers in the area such as the Gallatin, Madison and Bighorn.
| | Guided walk and wade trips on the Blackfeet Reservation are a great way to experience this remarkable area up close and personal. A wide variety of water is available to fish for numerous species including rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout and the ubiquitous mountain whitefish. Your guides can help you learn how to "read the water" and develop skills valuable in fishing any large river. | |

Beginners and experts alike will gain valuable insight and knowledge from an accomplished fly fisherman and guide. Courses share information on equipment, technique, casting, fly selection, and water reading as well as basic entomology and streamside information. Fly tiers can also enjoy a hands-on course on the basics of fly tying and take a few of their own flies as offerings for the fish. The courses range from 1-day classes to 4-day introductory courses to week-long activities. Families and groups will find this an enjoyable addition to their stay at Summit Station. Guests should make reservations for the courses prior to their arrival to insure that the course is matched to the experience of the guest. Welcome to Summit Station!
| | Summit Station Lodge is located about 10 miles West of East Glacier Park. The Reservation has several trophy trout lakes located within a 30-mile radius of the lodge. Duck, Mitten, Hope, are just some lakes that are world-class fishing lakes, making this unique location one of the best in the world. Your trained guides will be experienced, professional, Blackfeet local fly fishermen who will make your trip a memorable experience. You are required to be a Blackfeet Indian to guide in this reservation. | | Our season begins late April each year when fishing is at its best. We wet fly fish this popular time of the year where we bring large rainbows ranging from 4-15 lbs. The climate can be cold but fishing is always exceptional. In the Summer, it is time to dry fly fish with hatches including caddis, mayfly, midge, and damsels in abundance. Hopper fishing is also abundant in July though September. Horseback trips to a remote mountain top lake are a Summer specialty.
We offer not only the finest fly fishing around, but the best gourmet dinners, excellent accommodations and we promise memories of a lifetime. |
| | The Badger Creek flows just minutes from Summit Station Lodge and Cabins. This Creek is a summer specialty and one of the most incredible places to fly fish on the reservation. This place is famous worldwide for it's Rainbow and Cutthroats. The Canyon brings several pools along the Creek packed with fish and excitement. The views are simply phenomenal. This section of the creek shows unique characteristics, from long pools, deep riffles, undercut banks, and so on. | |
| | Located within the reservation, Duck Lake is one of the most incredible places to fish in Northern Montana. The lake is loaded with fish, such as Rainbow, Brown, and Kamloop trout. This lake has been featured in several outdoor publications such as "Fly Fisher" and "Outdoor Life". Guests can spend a day fishing this lake and we will promise you will be back year after year. The afternoons and the Glacier scenery makes this fishing experience perhaps one of their most memorable days of fishing ever. |

If you're hoping to hit the river in search of large, cart wheeling rainbows or line peeling browns, you'll need to know what type of equipment it's going to take. So, we've developed this section of our web site to help you prepare for what is certain be an once-in-a-lifetime fly fishing experience. We encourage you to contact us prior to your visit if you have any questions regarding gear.
While most of today's popular graphite rods will work on "the horn", a 7' 1/2" to 9', 3 to 5 weight rod equipped with weight forward floating line is preferred for dry fly fishing. Nymphing with an 8' 1/2" to 9', 5 to 6 weight rod is recommended.
We suggest you pack your fishing vest or fanny pack, fly cases, chest waders (either 2mm to 5mm Neoprene or Breathable), rain gear, head wear, polarized sunglasses, insect repellent and sun protection.
Wading sandals are great for late summer wet wading. Breathable, long sleeve shirts and shorts are ideal for hot summer days. Fingerless gloves are invaluable during the winter. If you're not equipped with some of these items, our shop can help get you ready for the day.
Your guides will often use strike indicators and a combination of nymphs to work the riffles, until flies begin to hatch. Popular fly patterns include Bead-Head Pheasant Tails, Scuds and Caddis larva. Surprisingly, these patterns work throughout the season. We have a small fly shop at the lodge where you can shop for any of your fly fishing needs.
